A fire burned in the fireplace nearby. I was sitting in the common room, like I did every night, reading a book. There came a sound from nearby and I heard other students come in and move on to their rooms for bed. What I didn’t expect was someone sitting next to me on the couch.

“Hello,” a familiar voice spoke. My head turned to see it was none other than Draco Malfoy. A tingling feeling filled my nose and I sneezed into the sleeve of my pajamas. Draco jumped back a bit shocked by the sudden noise.

“Sorry,” I said sniffing. “What do you want?” I asked. He didn’t usually talk to me. He had other girls in Slytherin to talk to, ones willing to kiss up to him.

“I was just wondering if you wanted to go out sometime. I don’t know that much about you,” Draco said hesitantly.

“I thought you were dating Pansy?” I closed my book.

“I broke up with her because, to be honest, I don’t want someone that only wants me for my money or status. Don’t tell anyone I said that,” he threatened. I giggled then coughed a bit in my hand. “Are you alright?”

“I’m fine. Draco, there isn’t much I know about you either. You seem so mean to most everyone though,” I sighed.

“Well, you’re pretty open about your feelings aren’t you? I’ll take that as a no then,” he motioned to stand up.

“Draco, that wasn’t my answer,” I informed and he sat back down.

“Then what is?” he looked at me seriously. This wasn’t a game for him. It sort of shocked me.

“I’ll go out with you, just promise me you won’t bother anyone while we’re together. You have to show me you really want this,” I explained. There was silence for a moment.

“That sounds reasonable,” he finally said. Another sneeze came between our conversation and a couple coughs. Draco stared at me with an intense glare.

“What?”

“You are not alright, tomorrow you should go to the hospital wing,” Draco said. “I don’t need to be getting sick either.”

“It’s just a cold, if I keep drinking my pumpkin juice and not push myself I’ll be fine,” I tried to assure him. He gave me a skeptic look.

“You won’t get over anything that easy, especially when you’ll be wondering around the castle all day. If you don’t go tomorrow then I’ll get Madame Pomfrey myself,” Draco crossed his arms. I pouted and played with the pages of my closed book as I thought about it.

“I really can’t be missing any school,” I tried to say.

“I don’t care, you want everyone to miss school because you’re too stubborn to go to the hospital wing?” he had a point.

“It’s scary how much you act like you care already and we haven’t even been on a date yet,” I smiled. “I’ll go whenever I get up,” I sighed.

“Good, that wasn’t that hard. Now I must get to bed, same with you,” Draco stood and went to the boys rooms.

“Yeah,” I whispered standing up myself and heading to my room. I placed my book on the nightstand and lay in my bed. Another cough came from my throat as my cat jumped onto my bed. She rubbed her head on my hand then got comfortable at my hip. “Good night,” I told her before sneezing and cuddling under the covers. I knew sooner I got better sooner I could go on a date and find out if Draco Malfoy really was more than he appeared to be.
